Sometimes, all a girl needs is to surround herself with one or two things that she really, really loves, say yes to a spur of the moment adventure, and not let herself linger in what's been lost too much, because that's so last year.
For me, a new year, doesn't necessarily mean trying one new thing a day or setting intentions I'll inevitably break. A new year, is about drawing nearer to the source - whatever that's supposed to mean. Whatever it means to you. Keeping close what's familiar, whatever feels like home.
Things like, Brooklyn. Early in the morning, on a Sunday when I scoop Landon from his apartment and we stroll the day away. Laughing like two teenagers, trying on all the clothes, shopping for the perfect vintage boots, or looking for a fern. A love fern.
Taking the train to a new neighborhood. Sometimes I forget how full this borough is, how much life this city has to offer. How usually, I forget to slow down, smile. It's okay to let go, and exhale, a little.
Watching movies all day, at home. It's 18 degrees outside, as I write this. And curled up on the couch, seems like where I'm meant to be. There's room fortwo; just enough to keep warm, or still, or not.
New Years, time to get busy, to do what makes you feel good. Free to be
